With break-ins on and around campus, it has put many students in an uneasy position. How are we to know that our valuables are secure in the small town of Statesboro? Especially with the rising number of students here at Georgia Southern, it will be even harder to pinpoint the culprit. However, I think there are several measurements that for students and faculty alike to help in the reduction of crime.
First thing is first, no one should walk around campus alone at night (for common sense reasons). As far as break-ins, always make sure to lock your door whether you are coming or going, especially if you are the only one in your apartment, dorm, or house. It is smart to leave at least a small light on when no one is on the premises. A smart thing to have in your phone are the numbers for campus and Statesboro police force. While 911 is always a good thing, the direct line for those forces may get you help faster. If you’re living in a dorm, be aware of where the RA lives, in case of emergency.
Hopefully by taking these precautions, the crime on and around campus can be minimized.
